Alice Dölle
Hi, I’m Alice Dölle, I’m 19 years old, and I’m in my second year of BESS!
I remember being undecided for a long time about what to study at university, and only making my final choice in June.
In the end, I chose Economics not only because it provides the tools to understand our societies, but also —and above all—because it offers the chance to make a positive impact on them. My dream is to work, in a few years’ time, in the field of the economics of crime.
With this mindset, I also got involved in student representation: first as class and course representative for BESS, and then being elected to the departmental councils.
Although, as a Economic and Social Sciences student, this choice might have seemed natural, I want to emphasize that I chose the Department of Social and Political Sciences because I believe that combining economic analysis with a political and social perspective is essential—and that this interdisciplinary approach should be as present as possible throughout our studies.
Department of Social & Political Sciences
The Department of Social and Political Sciences is the body that has the purpose of coordinating the professors who teach courses related to political and social studies. It includes the Department Chair, the directors of the individual courses and all the professors in this area. The Department discusses and decides the programs and exams of the Social and Political Sciences courses together with the program directors. The representatives make proposals, coordinate with the class and course representatives and ensure fair examination procedures and useful teaching in the relevant courses.
